Willtek 4202R will be used to test GSM-R-based railway mobile phones throughout Germany

Ismaning/Chessington, June 16 2003 - Willtek Communications today announced that Deutsche Bahn, the largest railway operator in Germany, has selected the Willtek 4202R Mobile Service Tester as its radio frequency (RF) tester of choice to enhance the reliability of its railway communications network.  As one of the first railway networks to move to Global System for Mobile Communications for the Railways (GSM-R), Deutsche Bahn will use Willtek’s technology to service and test GSM-R cab radios on all the operator’s locomotives across Germany.  The frame agreement to deploy the 4202R tester follows an initial purchase of 50 GSM service testers last year.

Benefits of the Willtek 4202R tester have been enhanced as it now offers a DC power supply option and will soon be available with a battery pack.  This removes the need for unwieldy power supply equipment to test vital communications systems, making it a truly mobile tester. 

Furthermore, the 4202R is the only network tester for GSM-R that can test both the radio frequency of cab radios as well as other in-cab equipment such as indicators and horns using the Voice Group Call Service (VGCS) that are triggered in the event of an emergency.
