Willtek’s new multitest solution saves repair centres up to 30,000 Euro per year

Ismaning/Chessington/Indianapolis, 9 December, 2003 – In an effort to help service centres improve their margins, Willtek Communications today introduced a new solution to increase the throughput in repair centres without the need for additional manpower or instruments. The unique solution consists of a four-port, bidirectional RF splitter called the 4940 Bidirectional RF Port, and the 4482 Parallel Multiple Phone Test software option for the Willtek 4400 Series Mobile Phone Tester. This combination allows test technicians to have up to four phones connected to the tester and thus supports much higher throughput at the test station.

Until now, incoming inspection and final test could not take advantage of the high test speed that the 4400 Series Mobile Phone Tester offers, because the test time of 10 to 12 seconds was offset by up to two minutes for the operator to attach and detach the mobile phone and for the phone to synchronise to the simulated network. The new test solution now minimises this delay.

“Having the fastest phone tester on the market was just not good enough; Willtek analysed the full testing process to increase our customers’ overall efficiency”, explains Willtek’s CEO Cyrille Damany. “The result is a solution that has been developed in cooperation with large service centers and will help them to save up to 30,000 Euro per year for operators and test equipment.”

The 4482 Parallel Multiple Phone Test option is a test software running on the 4400 Series Mobile Phone Tester. It performs a comprehensive test of the phone’s RF parameters and includes call setup routines also testing the digital circuits. Service personnel receive an easy-to-read pass/fail verdict and can print a test protocol.

The test software detects most types of phones and can automatically compensate for the coupling loss between the phone and the tester. With the additional TCP/IP Option installed, multiple test stations can read the type-specific coupling values from a shared list on the network, minimizing the effort for keeping the list up-to-date and ensuring that all the testers use the same data. Similarly, a central database of test results can be kept on the server if the testers all save the test protocols there.
