Updating the instrument firmware from the FTP server using a memory stick
This update capability requires a PC connected to the Internet, and an instrument to be updated.
Plug one of Willtek’s USB memory sticks into a free USB port.
Ensure that there is enough free memory on the USB stick to store the new firmware (typically 20 Mb).
Go to the Firmware > Memory Stick Update menu.
Select Firmware location: FTP Server and click on Next.
Select a firmware version and click on View information to see the new features compared to the firmware version currently installed.
Select the firmware version that you want to install on your instrument, and click on Start download. A file selector box pops up.
. In the file selector box, select a folder on the USB stick where to store the instrument firmware, and click Save. Do not alter the file name! The firmware is copied from the FTP server onto the memory stick. When the download is complete, a box pops up to notify you.
Confirm the message by clicking OK, then click Next.
Remove the USB memory stick from the PC and plug it into a free USB port of the instrument.
Click on Start update. A warning message appears.
Carefully read and observe the advice, and click on Yes. The 7201 Update Utility has the instrument copy and install the firmware previously copied onto the memory stick.
Do not interrupt the firmware update, i.e. do not switch off the instrument or the PC, nor disconnect the cable while the firmware is being updated; otherwise the instrument may have to be sent to a Willtek Service Centre for repair.
A message box will appear when the firmware update is completed. Confirm by clicking OK.
The new firmware version is downloaded, installed and ready for use.
Please use a LAN (TCP/IP) connection to control the 3100 with the 7201 Update Utility when updating the 3100 to firmware version 14.00!
Using a USB connection currently does not properly indicate when the update is actually completed.
You may run into the risk to switch off the device to early and interrupt the update.
With the update via LAN you have full visibility of the update process and no problems.
Note:If you are using a USB connection, you need to make sure that the 3100 USB-to-SerialCP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3) driver is installed correctly.
