There are many things that can prevent the mobile from obtaining service from the 3600D/4300. Probably the most important factor would be the system setup on the tester. Does it match what the mobile is expecting to see? You need to know some information about the mobile itself to properly program the tester. Important factors to know about the mobile are:
What is/are the SID(s) (and NID if CDMA, usually leave this at 0) the mobile is looking for?
What channel(s) is the mobile programmed to scan while looking for a Control Channel? (IRDB, Intelligent Roaming DataBase for TDMA and PRL, Priority Roaming List for CDMA)
Common tester setup problems:
Have you selected a valid Control Channel for the type of mobile you are testing?
ANALOG ~ 313 through 333 for System A, 334 through 354 for System B
TDMA Cellular ~ Any channel is valid however the mobile will scan channels 313 through 354 for a digital control channel (DCCH) after all others.
TDMA PCS ~ Any channel is valid however it must be in the mobile’s IRDB or it will not obtain service
CDMA Cellular ~ Channels 283 or 691 for System A and Channels 384 or 777 for System B
CDMA PCS ~ Any multiple of 25 i.e.: 25, 150, 1175 etc. The channel selected must be in the PRL or you will not obtain service
Do you have the correct system selected A or B? (Cellular Only)
Does the SID match the system selected? The SID should be even for B systems and odd for A systems. (Cellular Only)
Have you turned on or selected Digital, CDMA and/or PCS? PCS is only valid in CDMA or Digital.
What type of mobile are you testing? AMPS, TDMA, CDMA or a combination? Do you have the proper options installed in your tester?
Is the Base Power turned on and at a reasonable level >-70.0 dBm is usually appropriate. But if you have a lot of interference or base stations nearby you may have to increase the output power.
Does the mobile lock onto the local service and not the tester? You may need to program the mobile to the opposite system or obtain a RF shield box to block the outside RF sources.
One of these suggestions will usually solve your service problems
