Leading manufacturers welcome Willtek’s first service tester for WCDMA phones

New and future-proof extension protects customer investments in Willtek 4400 Series Mobile Phone Tester

Ismaning/Chessington/Indianapolis, 10 February, 2004 – Following successful product demonstrations with leading mobile phone manufacturers, Willtek today announces its WCDMA System Option for the Willtek 4400 Series Mobile Phone Tester. The future-proof test solution enables service factories to test new WCDMA phones and comprises all the transmitter measurements typically conducted in high-end service, including an ultra-fast staircase power measurement required for certain WCDMA phones. The measurements are performed in non-call mode; a second version with call setup procedures will be available in July 2004.

“Our tests with leading manufacturers showed that the 4400 with the WCDMA test option fulfills the requirements of major phone service factories”, says Cyrille Damany, CEO at Willtek Communications. “Now that 3G services are available and terminals hit the market in larger quantities, this test solution is what our customers need”.

The WCDMA Non-Call Mode Option of the 4400 will be demonstrated live at the 3GSM World Congress from February 23 to 26. The congress in Cannes, France, is the leading event for network operators and manufacturers celebrating new products and exchanging new ideas. The second event to view WCDMA on the 4400 will be the CTIA Show in Atlanta, USA, from March 22 to 24.

Measurements supported now include average and peak power, modulation quality, modulation spectrum, occupied bandwidth, adjacent channel leakage ratio, and spectrum emission. With the WCDMA System Option, the 4400 can generate constant wave and WCDMA-modulated signals as well as the FM signals required to tune specific WCDMA phones.

The WCDMA System Option includes a hardware upgrade that is completely flexible, allowing Willtek to implement changes to the WCDMA specifications in software, even down to the lower layers. Moreover, the hardware is prepared for future enhancements such as HSDPA (high speed downlink package access).

WCDMA complements other system options for the 4400 series as GSM, GSM/GPRS and CDMA 1xRTT are already available. All these system options can be installed on the 4400, instruments in the field can also be upgraded with WCDMA.

Notes to editors
