Parsippany, NJ and Ismaning (Germany), March 20, 2007 – Willtek Communications today announced that 1xEV-DO Revision A testing capability will soon be available on its 4400 Mobile Phone Tester Series. The 4400 allows production and service centers to align the wireless devices to achieve the required power and modulation accuracy, and to verify the quality of the mobile phone. With Rev.A currently being rolled out by network operators, the new capabilities come right in time for mass production of the new phones. The Rev.A feature comes as a free software update to the 1xEV-DO options on the 4400. A true multi-format cellular phone tester, the 4400 supports all major 2G and 3G standards: GSM, GPRS, EDGE, CDMA2000 1xRTT, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA. Willtek will demonstrate EVDO Rev.A first at the upcoming CTIA Show in Orlando from March 27 to 29.
Explains Matthias Weber, Director of Product Marketing for Willtek Communications: “The Rev.A update comes right in time for the mass market of appropriate phones. The 4400 has an excellent price-performance ratio for production and high-end service applications; the fast power measurement helps to avoid a bottleneck in the production line. Service engineers can utilize the built-in test sequencer for stand-alone automated procedures that ease incoming inspection and final test. Willtek’s testing solution delivers what manufacturers, service providers and repair shops need!”
The 4400 with the 1xEV DO option forms a fast, accurate and reliable test system for wireless devices such as mobile phones, wireless PDAs and PC cards. With its fast power measurements, production sites can use it to precisely align the phone’s transmitter within very little time, increasing the production throughput and the quality of the devices. With its outstanding performance and price, the 4400 provides vendors with extremely low total test cost per wireless device. As all major cellular standards are available on the 4400 series, it drastically reduces production downtime because one test station can easily switch from one technology to another.
Service centers and the repair loop within manufacturing sites use the 4400 with 1xEV-DO to check the overall transmitter and receiver quality of wireless devices when operating in non-call or call mode. These checks are based on measurements of the modulation quality, the transmit power quality, the radio frequency spectrum and the receiver sensitivity. These types of tests, carried out with the 4400, lead to very cost-effective verification of wireless terminals because the 4400 is inexpensive, reliable and fast.
About 1xEV-DO Rev.A
1xEV-DO is an extension of the CDMA2000 standard for higher data rates over cellular networks. Revision A of the standard increases the maximum data rate on the forward link from 2457 to 3072 kbps and, more importantly, on the reverse link to 1843.2 from 153 kbps. This tremendous improvement is achieved by way of new modulation formats; the previously available HPSK and QPSK schemes are now being completed by 8PSK. The Quality of Service (QoS) can also be improved with multiple data flows. Short and multiple-user data packets also reduce the latency time which is important for voice over IP and online gaming, and enables TV broadcasts to mobile phones over an IP network.
