Operators Measure Quality of Service with TETRA AirAnalyzer from Willtek

Willtek Communications introduces protocol analyser for TETRA

Ismaning (Germany) and Cheadle Hulme (UK), 9 May 2007 – Willtek Communications today introduced an analyser for the TETRA air interface. Based on its radio frequency measurement and protocol analysis capabilities, network operators and user groups can monitor the quality of service of the TETRA network, evaluate the inter-operability between the network and a new TETRA radio, and identify handover problems and dead spots; this is particularly important for public safety and security organisations where lives may depend on proper communication tools. The instrument is immediately available and will be demonstrated at the TETRA World Congress in June.

In TETRA networks, the availability of the service is a major issue for the user. Willtek’s 8140 TETRA AirAnalyzer helps to locate dead spots and identify handover problems. These issues can then be fixed by tweaking network parameters and adjusting radio antennas.

Explains Tom Riedl, Product Marketing Manager at Willtek Communications: “Willtek has a long history of providing test equipment for the PMR and PAMR markets. With its extensive monitoring and filtering capabilities, the TETRA AirAnalyzer supports engineers that are tasked to ensure the quality of the radio communication over the TETRA network. This is true in particular in those networks that are designed to save lives, that means in the public safety and security sector.”

The 8140 TETRA AirAnalyzer can also help to integrate new terminals into the network or support type approval or fault tracking because it is a protocol analyser for the TETRA air interface. It can be used to record, display and evaluate the complex course of the communication between TETRA mobile stations and a TETRA base station in clear or optionally in encrypted mode. It monitors and analyses the complete up and downlink of one TETRA carrier including all time slots (eight at the same time, i.e. four in the uplink and four in the downlink). The two receivers of the TETRA AirAnalyzer offer a very high sensitivity to allow monitoring even in difficult radio environments. The optional voice decoder easily allows analysing and recording voice calls. In addition, the TETRA AirAnalyzer can be used to carry out RF and modulation measurements.

About TETRA
