E. Measuring pulsed signals

Q: I am measuring a pulsed signal (modulated burst carrier from wireless device), and I get a weird signal on the display (spectrum seems cut into stripes). Is the instrument defective?

A: Spectrum analyzers are best at displaying static, continuous signals. If you want to see the spectrum of the active part of a pulsed signal, the most useful setting is max hold.
