Shield boxes are used by service engineers and production workers within point-of-sale (POS), service, and manufacturing/production operations. The Willtek 4921 RF Shield is an ideal solution for those with a high open/close rate.
In order to ensure accurate test results, the device under test (DUT) should be isolated from its environment to prevent radiation from different sources affecting each other. This would result in unreliable or wrong test results, incorrectly adjusted transmitters, or failed tests even though the device under test does perform within specifications.
In a pure metal box, the RF signal inside is reflected many times from the metal walls. Depending on the frequency being used and the exact position of the unit under test, the reflections may attenuate or amplify the signal at the antenna. Reliable and stable measurement results can only be obtained if the signal is absorbed, not reflected. The absorbing material inside the 4921 RF Shield ensures signals are properly transmitted from and to the unit under test, allowing stable and correct radio measurements.
The Willtek 4921 RF Shield solves three problems that occur without proper shielding:
-
It eliminates problems with adjacent mobiles (radiation from one mobile phone affecting measurements on the other).
-
It eliminates problems with local base stations (signals from a real base station that affect the measurement, or signals from the phone affecting calls on a real base station).
-
It protects the environment from the RF emitted by the device under test.
Testing the Bluetooth component of the wireless device
The 4941 Bluetooth Connectivity Hardware consists of a Bluetooth Adapter, cables and rear panel for either a 4921 or RF Shield III. This hardware along with the 4489 Bluetooth Connectivity Test Package or 3189 Bluetooth Connectivity Test Package provides a simple connectivity test of Bluetooth enabled mobiles.
- The 4489 package for the 4400 Series Mobile Phone Testers consists of the 4941 Bluetooth Connectivity Hardware, an option key and changes to the RAPID! Evaluation Test Scripts to allow the mobile to be tested during a normal test. The Bluetooth test will then be part of the print-out and data saved to disk.
- The 3189 package for the 3100 Mobile Fault Finder consists of the 4941 Bluetooth Connectivity Hardware, an option key and changes to the 7310 Lector software to allow the Bluetooth portion of the mobile to be tested during or after the normal test. The Bluetooth test results will be part of the print-out and data saved to disk.
Typically all mobiles are tested in the incoming and outgoing portion of the service process. The tests are typically Go/NoGo tests to perform a quick check to determine if the DUT is working or not. The goal of this location is to classify the type of failure, such that the mobile may be routed to the proper service technician. For outgoing verification, it is for a quick check that all features are working properly. Technicians using the 4400/3100 with the Bluetooth Connectivity Test Package will work in a service where throughput is a key criterion.
